Water for all! Construction of El Cuchillo II Aqueduct
6/6/2024
At GP Construcción we built the infrastructure for the mega hydraulic project of the "El Cuchillo II" Aqueduct, which benefits more than five million inhabitants of the state of Nuevo León. This project is more than an immediate solution for the present, it is the future of the families of Nuevo Leon.
How is the El Cuchillo II Aqueduct formed?
Together with the government of Nuevo León and Servicios de Agua y Drenaje de Monterrey, we built the 104-kilometer, 2.13-meter diameter El Cuchillo II aqueduct from China, Nuevo León.
The aqueduct will provide more than 5,000 cubic meters per second of water to supply the Monterrey metropolitan area and has a useful life of approximately 50 years.
The supply begins at Pumping Plant 0 (PB0) until it reaches the San Roque Water Treatment Plant in Juarez, which is buried at a depth of 22 meters, the first 5 meters of which are covered with a reinforced concrete slab.
The aqueduct is made up of submergence tanks, oscillating tanks and air chambers, elements that make possible the pumping in stages and guarantee the operation of the pipeline.
The pumping system has five plants at a distance of 20 to 25 kilometers from each other. Each plant has six pumps, five of which carry water from El Cuchillo Dam to the San Roque Water Treatment Plant. The remaining pump is a backup in case of failure.
GP Construcción carried out the detailed engineering, the executive project, and the construction of the 5 pumping plants and their air chambers.
The inauguration was carried out by the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, accompanied by the Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García Sepúlveda last December.
